You just purchased your new home – congratulations! But, before it’s time to start enjoying life at your new address, you must tackle the dreaded move-in day. There’s a lot that goes into moving into a new home. If you don’t stay on top of things, move-in day can be a total bust.
Get your pen and paper ready because, below, we offer a few tips and tricks to guide you through your move-in experience.
Set up utilities beforehand
No one wants to unpack in the scorching heat or freezing cold! Make sure to have your electric, gas and water turned on before your move-in date.
Get out your tape measure
Take a close look at your home’s blueprint and make a detailed list of measurements of all interior spaces, as well as furniture you already own. This way, you’ll know exactly what belongings will fit where on the big day.
Tackle one room at a time
Shaping your moving timeline room by room can make the move feel less overwhelming. Start in one room and go drawer-by-drawer and shelf-by-shelf. Staying focused on one task at a time will make the experience feel less daunting.
Pack essentials separately
After a long day of moving, you’re not going to want to search through hundreds of boxes for your toothbrush and a change of clothes. Pack an essentials bag for your first night or even first week in your new home!
