Moving Mania Made Easy
August 21, 2014
You and your family have decided to move into a Grant & Co. home – Congratulations! An upcoming move can cause plenty of stress and even some confusion. It doesn’t matter if you are moving down the street or across the country; the process is often a challenge.
The many important factors that come into play while moving can sometimes get lost in the mix of excitement for a new beginning and nostalgia for leaving something behind. We have gathered a few excellent tips to make your lives easier before, during and after your big move:
- Break down tasks into weekly to-do lists. It will be easier to tackle tasks on a weekly basis than to try and face them randomly over the course of a few months.
- Start the packing process by cleaning out closets and other spaces to get rid of unused or unwanted items. If these items are in good shape, consider donating them!
- Send word to friends and family that you will be moving – make sure they have your new contact information.
- Set up a box-labeling system that is coordinated by room. This will make both packing and unpacking much easier and organized!
- Keep family heirlooms, valuable paperwork and jewelry separate from the rest of the items to be packed – you’ll want to carry them with you instead of letting them get lost in the shuffle of moving trucks or boxes being shipped.
- Put together a packet for the new owners of your home with any warranties, vendor recommendations and a note with your contact information in case they have questions or need to forward your mail.
- Have each family member pack a suitcase like they are going on a two-week vacation. Remember to pack toiletries and comfortable clothes for unpacking!
And, of course, make sure to cherish the memories made in your previous home, and look forward to making plenty more in your new Grant & Co. home!
