Energy Efficiency A Primary Concern When Buying A New Home

August 2, 2019

One of the most important things to consider when choosing a new home are the energy efficient features of new homes as compared to older homes that you might be considering.  There are numerous benefits to choosing a home built today, so let’s take a look at a few of these things that will save you money and help the environment.

Thermal Barriers:  Our thermal barriers help to prevent outside water from entering the walls of the home and to seal the home to keep outside air outside where it belongs.

Lighting:  A building’s interior and exterior lighting system uses energy, typically by converting electricity into lumens. Lighting fixtures, especially old-fashioned incandescent light bulbs, also emit heat as a byproduct. We use more efficient lighting solutions, including light emitting diodes (LEDs), which generate less heat and more light per unit of electricity consumed. LED’s use 75% less energy and last at least 6 times longer than regular bulbs. Better light and less money.

High Performance Windows:  Our energy efficient windows have protective coatings to help keep heat inside during the winter and outside during the summer.  They also block ultra violet sun rays that can discolor furniture, floors and carpets.

High Efficiency Heating & Cooling Systems:  As much as 44% of the energy used in your home goes toward heating and cooling.  Our AC systems are designed and installed for optimal performance resulting on a big effect on your utility bills and on your comfort.  Older systems installed just a few years ago cannot compete with the new energy efficient systems we use today.

Programmable Thermostat:  According to the Department of Energy, a programmable thermostat can reduce your heating costs by up to 35% and cooling costs by as much as 25%.  Set it and forget it.

High Energy Water Heater:  Heated water accounts for approximately 15% of your home’s energy use.  Our energy efficient water heaters mean less money and also less time to heat water for your use.

Energy Star Rated Appliances:  Every Grant home comes with Energy Star certified Whirlpool appliances which use up to 50% less energy than typical appliances.

Moen WaterSense® Plumbing Fixtures:  All of our faucets and shower heads are EPA WaterSense® approved and use up to 30% less water than traditional fixtures.
