Valentine's Day isn`t just for couples anymore. Originally held to honor St Valentine and express love to sweethearts, February 14 has become a time of celebration and fun for families. Today, families take this special day to express their love and appreciation for each other by giving cards, flowers, chocolates and other candies. There are also lots of ways to celebrate love that won’t cost much but will provide fun-filled memories for all family members. Balloon Goodies  Fill red and pink balloons with candies and other small treats. Inflate the balloon bouquets and leave them to be found at the breakfast table for a fun morning treat for your little ones. Valentine Scavenger Hunt   Organize a treasure hunt on Valentine's Day. Write little notes about how you feel for your family members and what they mean to you and place them around your house along with a candy heart or other treat. Add a riddle at the end of each note about where to find the next note. At the last note, have something special waiting there, say a teddy bear or other toy or treat. Valentine’s Day this year is on a Saturday – plenty of time to find the hidden treasures. Picnic Fun   Cook up some yummy dishes at home, pack them into your Valentine baskets and go for a picnic with your family. The February weather may not be the best time for a picnic, so just move your picnic indoors in front of the fireplace. Fill up the picnic hamper with chili and hot chocolate, games and goodies and have a great time with the people you love! Touch lives Valentine's Day can be a great opportunity to touch the life of someone else by making the day special for the elderly or sick. You can visit a nearby hospital or assisted living facility to hand over small Valentine gifts to the patients admitted in there; especially those who do not have many visitors. Your presence will fill them with a sense of belonging to the community and provide them with some much needed emotional boost.
