Whether you are totally new to an area, moving from a different neighborhood or have lived in your community for a long time, there are plenty of tips to help you become involved in your community and form relationships with your neighbors. Check them out here, and take a look at a few of our favorite suggestions:
- Ask questions: Don’t be afraid to go next door to ask your neighbor for a restaurant recommendation, what the trash pickup day is or for that cup of sugar you need to finish baking a cake. This is an easy way to start a conversation and can lead to the start of a neighborly friendship.
- Invite a neighbor over for dinner or a back yard BBQ: Get to know someone you haven’t been able to spend much time with in a casual, pressure-free environment. You can even turn dinner into a playdate and let the kids come along for the fun!
- Host a block party quarterly to introduce new neighbors.
- Coordinate an exercise group: Organize a weekly run through the local park, gather a group of workout buddies to hit the nearest gym a few nights a week, or find a yoga class you think others would enjoy. Working out with another person or group can form some great bonds!
- Coordinate a Neighborhood Watch program. For more information on the Neighborhood Watch Program in Desoto County, MS, click here. For information on Neighborhood Watch programs in Shelby County, TN, click here.
