In Mississippi, students must take assessments in Algebra I, Biology I, English II and U.S. history before graduation, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. In addition to focusing on academics, the department has an Office of Healthy Schools to oversee students' wellness through nutrition, physical education and counseling programs. 

There are 234 Mississippi schools honored in the 2019 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings and 3 DeSoto County Schools ranked in the Top 5 Schools in Mississippi, according to US News and World Report.

Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college. 

Lewisburg High School was ranked the #1 school in the State of Mississippi with DeSoto Central High School coming in at #2 and Hernando High School ranking #5 in the state.

A brand new Grant neighborhood in Hernando, MS will be available before schools starts in August.  Finishing touches are being added right now to Crossroads in Hernando, located on Hwy. 51 north of the Hernando, MS town square at Green T Road.  Watch for grand opening details!

Lately, Grant is working hard on a new neighborhood in Cherokee Golf Community where children will attend DeSoto Central High School and Pleasant Hill Elementary School.  Cherokee Point by Grant is scheduled to have new home sites near Cherokee Golf Course by the end of the year.  Check back to this Blog for details!
